The 3rd QCBS R symposium will be held from October 10th to 12th 2019 at the Gault Nature Reserve

Final Preparations

Welcome to the 3rd QCBS R Symposium! We hope you are as excited as we are!

To help you prepare for the event, we have compiled a list of things you should know:

What to bring

  • Laptops;
  • Sleeping bag or blankets (basic bedding – i.e. single sheet and pillow – is provided);
  • Towels;
  • Basic toiletries;
  • Warm clothes and/or sports clothes (in case you plan to go on a hike);
  • Alcoholic beverages (in case you would like to drink).

A few things to note

  • There is a kitchen in the house, with dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and electric kettle;
  • Dish towels, garbage bags, toilet and dish soap are provided;
  • Phones are located in the chalet living rooms and in the kitchen of the meeting room.
  • For external calls dial 9 followed by the number.

Gault Nature Reserve Rules

  • Smoking is prohibited in all buildings and is also prohibited within a radius of 9 metres (30 ft) outside any door;
  • You are responsible or any damage caused to the equipment or the buildings;
  • No sound system is permitted inside or outside Gault House or the chalets;
  • Use of candles inside or outside is prohibited;
  • It is not permitted to use a BBQ;
  • It is prohibited to move furniture outside;
  • External fires must be done in the designated fire pit;
  • All deliveries or special set-up must be done the day of the event;
  • It is prohibited to swim in the lake or bring pets;
  • Open area around the chalets is usable, but please stay out of the adjacent woods (there are rare plants and long-term research sites nearby);
  • There is a trail through the woods, as well as hiking trails;
  • Please follow trail map, and respect opening & closing hours;
  • Alcohol is permitted, but drink responsibly;

In case of emergencies:

  • There is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) available in the Gault House.
  • For emergencies requiring police/fire/ambulance: call 911
  • The gate is closed outside business hours, meaning that someone will have to go to the gate to allow help to come;
  • Other needs/assistance: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM dial “0” on one of the phones; after 5:00 PM call 514-398-3000 (McGill security).
