Série de conférences en écologie microbienne-Microbial Ecology Speaker Series

Êtes-vous un.e passioné.e d’écologie microbienne qui se sent étranger.e dans les séminaires départementaux? Aimeriez-vous faire la rencontre de gens dans votre domaine et domaines connexes en assistant à des conférences sur le sujet à Montréal? Voici une nouvelle initiative menée par des étudiant.es-chercheur.es du CSBQ qui visent à donner de la visibilité aux scientifiques locaux et internationaux de tout acabit en écologie microbienne. Une conférence par mois sera organisée dans une des universités affiliées (UdeM, UQÀM, McGill, Concordia et INRS), d’Octobre 2018 à Mars 2019. Toutes les conférences sont gratuites et ouvertes à tous!

Are you a microbial ecologist and you often feel lost at your department seminars? Would you like to get in contact with more people working on related fields by attending to talks on the topic in Montreal? QCBS students are organizing a series of talks on microbial ecology, bringing regional and international researchers to Montreal (UdeM, UQÀM, McGill, Concordia university and INRS), from October 2018 to March 2019. All conferences are free for anyone who wants to come!

Alejandro Reyes a obtenu son doctorat en bio-informatique dans le laboratoire du professeur Gordon à l’école de médecine de l’Université de Washington à St-Louis, où il a publié des travaux fondamentaux sur les bactériophages du microbiote intestinal humain, dont son article dans Nature intitulé « Metagenomic analysis of viruses in the fecal microbiota of monozygotic twins and their mothers ». À la suite de son doctorat, il a ouvert son propre laboratoire de recherche à la Universidad de los Andes en Colombie, où il fait usage de bio-informatique appliquée afin de développer des outils omiques (e.g. génomique, transcriptomique, métabolomique) permettant de caractériser les communautés microbiennes ainsi que leurs interactions avec l’environnement.

Alejandro Reyes got his phD in computational biology from the Gordon Lab at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he published foundational research on bacteriophages in the human gut microbiota, such as his Nature paper “Metagenomic analysis of viruses in the fecal microbiota of monozygotic twins and their mothers”. He is currently an assistant professor at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, where he is using computational biology to develop tools from -omic studies (genomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic, etc.) for the characterization of microbial communities and their interactions with the environment.
